Mennonite du Burkina Faso (EEMBF)
In the 1970's a devastating drought cut a withering swath of destruction
all across Africa just below the Sahara Desert. Amidst this suffering MCC
was called upon to send water development teams to the region. Once on
the scene, Mennonite personnel discovered a band of ethnic groups along
the border between Burkina Faso and Mali who were without any Christian
presence or witness. Appraised of this situation, AIMM decided to investigate
and in 1978 placed a pioneering team of missionaries with the avowed intent
of establishing a missionary presence and witness among each of these isolated
groups. Finding heavily Islamized groups of people, the AIMM missionaries
were prepared to wait, if necessary, for their first converts. To their
joy, they were able to baptize their first believer in 1980 just two years
after their arrival.
The Mennonite Church of Burkina Faso was formally organized
in 1993. The church headquarters are located in Orodara in the Kenedougou
Province. Currently the Church lists a membership of 180 people.
