AIMM Prayer and Praise September 2006
*AIMM partners Mennonite Mission Network (MMN), Mennonite Church Canada Witness (MCCW), Evangelical Mennonite Conference (EMC), and the French Mennonite Mission Committee (CMMF) provide the support for mission workers. AIMM assists these workers and African churches through prayer, finances and administrative support via the Partnership Councils as they carry out ministry.
Botswana
Pray for leaders and participants in the ongoing Bible study classes. Pray
for discernment for Glyn and Susan Allison-Jones (MCCW) as they make decisions
about the future direction of this ministry.
Pray that the continuing exploration of vital forms of AIDS ministry in Botswana would bear fruit, and that Glyn and Susan could provide direction in this for Mennonite Ministries in Botswana.
Praise God that Glyn and Susan were recently able to make a trip to Lesotho
to deliver funds raised in North America for the roof of the St. Elie church.
Burkina Faso
Loren and Donna Entz (MMN) are now in Winnipeg for a six-week break while
they help Aisha and Mariam to get settled in a new living situation and new
university courses. Pray that this family time would go well.
Siaka Traore (EEMBF) will finish his contract with MCC at the end of this month, and will join his wife Claire, and their children Merveille and Samuel, who are already in a rented house in Bobo-Dioulasso. Daughter Nema is at a boarding school near Ouagadougou. After a brief break, Siaka is planning to begin church planting efforts there in January 2007. Pray for this family through these changes.
Pray for Jeff and Tany Warkentin (MCCW) and their children Danika and Archer, as they begin church planting and working with Mennonite university students in the capital city, Ouagadougou. Praise the Lord- a house that will serve both as dormitory and church meeting place has been found and rented. AIMM sent $3,000 to equip the house with furniture.
Pray for Anne Garber Kompaore (MCCW) as she provides linguistic expertise for AIMM Bible translation projects, as well as other projects such as a revision of the Moore Bible.
Pray for Lillian Haas (MCCW) as she prepares her marriage to Norm Nickleson Oct.7, 2006.
Pray for Paul and Lois Thiessen and family (EMC) as they live in Manitoba this school year. Paul is studying at Providence Seminary. Pray that their energy would be renewed for the Siamou translation project.
DR Congo
Pray for the upcoming second round of Presidential elections planned for October
29. Pray for a positive, peaceful process and for the election to increase
stability and economic development.
Pray for the three Congo Mennonite Church leaders- Pastor Komuesa (CMCO), Pastor Mubenga (CEM), and Pastor Pelende (CEFMC) as they give leadership and direction both to the churches and to the Congo Partnership Council.
Praise God that CMCO has once again gained possession of its Kinshasa compound. Pray for a final resolution of the leadership battles.
Praise God for positive movement in CMCO’s Year of Evangelism! The initial series of showings of the Jesus Film were well received. Pastor Komuesa reports many persons coming to the Lord, and new inspiration for CMCO members. Pray for future series of showings being planned for September and October.
Pray that details of the Sawmill project will come together. The plan is to ship it via air in November. Arnold Harder plans to accompany the saw and provide initial help in setting it up.
Pray for the Sept.9 meeting in Winnipeg of persons concerned about medical needs of the Mennonite areas of Congo. Pray that this meeting would be productive and practical in addressing real needs.
Pray for Henry Goertz, his son Marvin and Zoe Strother as they continue to plan for an end of year visit to Congo to renew friendships with Congolese Mennonites.
South Africa
Pray for Phil and Christine Lindell Detweiler
(MMN) as they continue to explore how best to empower South African partners
for ministry in the context of the AIDS crisis.
Praise God for Joe and Anna Sawatzky (MMN) working in Mthatha. Pray for Joe as he works at theological education issues with Bethany Bible Institute, and for Anna as she learns about women’s issues through her work at Itipini Clinic.
Dan and Yvonne Snider Nighswander (MCCW) have just arrived in Pietermaritzburg. Pray for a good orientation and adjustment to their new life.
Pray for Hippolyto Tshimanga (MCCW) and Rod Hollinger-Janzen as well as Stanley Green (MMN) who is preparing to orient them to South Africa and our ministry partners there in November.
ICC/Office
The November ICC meetings have been moved from Kinshasa
to South Africa since the meeting dates coincided with the projected announcement
of the second round Presidential election results in Congo. Pray for a speedy
decision to be made on the exact location of the meetings so that travel plans
can be made.
Praise God that the old AIMM office building has been rented by a church group, New Light of Hope Christian Center. Pray that their interest in purchasing it will become a reality.
Pray for several persons who are considering giving time and energy to visiting
and encouraging AIMM donors.
